RM11mil flyover in Puchong to open soon

A new flyover U-turn into Setiawalk, Puchong, is set to be open to the public by the end of this month.

The 300m long ramp, which connects from the turnoff from Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) to Persiaran Wawasan in Pusat Bandar Puchong, was built by SP Setia at a cost of RM11mil.

Speaking during a site visit, SP Setia divisional general manager (niche development) Paul Soo Hee Pin said the project was intended to ease traffic in the area and provide more convenience to residents and visitors.

“Currently, visitors are using a T-junction further down the road to make a U-turn to get into Setiawalk. This causes traffic congestion and is also dangerous,” said Soo.

He was joined by Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) officers, local councillors and Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han during the visit.

Construction began in June 2013 and was slated for completion in December last year but was delayed due to relocation of utilities by Syabas and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

“We are just awaiting inspections by the Road Safety Authority, Malaysian Highway Authority and MPSJ,” said Soo.

Meanwhile, Ng highlighted that the flexible poles (striped barrier poles) from Persiaran Wawasan leading out to the LDP needed to be replaced because many of them had been knocked down by vehicles.

“Some drivers will take a shortcut by weaving through the missing poles, especially on weekends when there is a lot of traffic,” he said, suggesting that MPSJ and Litrak look into erecting a permanent barrier.

He also raised the issue of frequent flash floods occurring below the interchange of Bandar Puteri, Puchong, which has been ongoing for the past three months.

“Every time there is heavy rain, a stretch of 50m on both sides of the LDP will be inundated by water,” he said.

Although the water level was not very high and it subsided quickly, he said the flood still slowed down traffic and cause congestion.

“I urge the relevant authorities to solve this problem,” he added. - By The Star
