Property owners in Ampang, Selangor owe RM11mil in taxes

A total of 32,000 property owners in Ampang Jaya have failed to pay assessment tax amounting to RM11 million since five years ago.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Abd Hamid Hussain said the largest group were owners of residential buildings, followed by commercial buildings and industrial buildings.

"A total of 167 property owners have property in Pandan Indah, Bukit Antarabangsa, Taman Melawati and Boulevard.

"The arrears involve some 400 residential units and vacant lots left abandoned," he told reporters after opening the MPAJ Residents Committee Seminar 2015 in Ampang Jaya, yesterday.

Hamid said the arrears had affected the maintenance of public facilities and infrastructure such as food courts, bus stations and foodstalls in the municipality.

"We have sent a notice demanding payment within 15 days to the property owners but they are still delaying the payment.

"If they cannot pay the full sum in one payment, we can allow them to pay in installments until the arrears is fully paid."

He said MPAJ expects to collect assessment tax amounting to RM105 million from 161,000 property owners this year.

"For 2016, we will adopt a face-to-face approach to remind property owners, especially those with arrears, the importance of paying assessment tax." - Bernama
