Soon-to-open flyover promises convenience

Shah Alam residents are looking forward to the opening of the new flyover from the Federal Highway into Section 7, Shah Alam, which they believe will ease traffic congestion woes.

Hafizul Nizam, who works as a despatch, said people would be able to get to i-City, Shah Alam and Klang without getting caught in traffic jam when the flyover was opened.

The 30-year-old from Shah Alam believes that with the new route in place, motorists, especially those heading to i-City, would be able to avoid the morning rush hour congestion.

“Before the flyover opens, tourists from other states have to use different routes when they want to visit i-City, but now there is a direct route so it becomes more convenient for them,” he added.

Hafizul also pointed out that Jalan Padang Jawa became congested with traffic during weekend evenings.

Agreeing with Hafizul is Datin Yasmine Abdullah, director of Aga Touch (M) Sdn Bhd, who said the flyover would help get her around the area in a shorter amount of time.

“My children and I come to this part of Shah Alam regularly and normally we encounter traffic jam that is at its peak around 8pm, which consumes time and energy,” she said.

“With the flyover as an option, I can save up to 15 minutes and that makes a huge difference.”

A spokesman for i-City told The Star that they were happy over the news of the flyover opening.

“With the bridge in place, it will be very convenient for students, tourists and people living in Section 7,” she said.

The flyover was completed in July last year, though the opening to the public was held off until this year. It was built by PKNS Infra Bhd and would be handed over to Shah Alam City Council to maintain.

Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) director-general Datuk Ismail Md Salleh said LLM had issued the necessary certification last week, which allowed the flyover to be opened at any time. - The Star
